Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Debates Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several key adjustments:

  • Every squad has just eight human participants, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities performed by human gamers grant full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
  • Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.

In short, this mode lives up to its name: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives more options for gamers looking for different methods to have fun with the game. But, if video games have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are mad.

Player Responses: From Fury to Support

"People want real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," says another. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and another lists all the issues they consider to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this title all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states another. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Community Feedback

Despite the support, players have valid points to complain about the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it could increase queue times more extended for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the community compromising halfway, according to forum feedback. Another describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?

If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
