Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer responsible for many legendary styles favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died aged 80.

Price was best known for his architectural shapes and performative fashion, most notably the soft-colored suits that featured in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

Price's death comes shortly after he unveiled his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "dress" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger sported during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in crafting form-fitting garments made him a "true original," according to the UK's fashion authority.

During the nineties, he started creating ensembles for Camilla, now Queen Consort, which included various looks for her US tour following her marriage.

Following a profession lasting half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in partnership with the design house 16Arlington.

Design circles says farewell to a genuine innovator whose legacy on fashion and music remains deeply ingrained.
