Followers Call for Arrest of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Devoted followers of the actress are demanding that a person who breached a barricade and touched the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be taken into custody or expelled from Singapore.
A circulating footage shows the Australian man bypassing media personnel and lunging at Grande while the cast made its way down a promenade surrounded by fans.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the stunned actress away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being removed of the premiere by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "let go after being taken in", though court documents revealed that he was set to attend court on the following morning. It is not clear if he was charged.
Record of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has invaded a performance. His Instagram account contains recordings of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at Katy Perry's Sydney show in June this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers event in the city last winter.
"Steps should be implemented enforced against him as this is evidently a legal violation," commented an Instagram user, in a message to a video Mr Wen posted of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" a different Instagram user questioned.
Followers Express Concern Over the Star's Safety
Numerous followers criticized Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed dealing with PTSD after a terrorist explosion at the end of her spring 2017 performance in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and harming numerous individuals.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" wrote another response on Instagram.
Some fans also faulted event staff at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while some requested digital services to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Aftermath and Event Details
In clips shared widely, Grande seemed startled when she was touched by the man. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has not issued a statement on the event, and the rest of the event proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of attendees had gathered in a mass of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore venue, including several who had waited for as long as many hours before it began.
The motion picture, to be released on 21 November, is the sequel of a two-film interpretation of the well-known stage musical Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected relationship between two contrasting sorceresses.
The production itself is a adaptation of the twentieth-century story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the good witch Glinda, was dressed in a rosé sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the Elphaba, wore a sleek black dress embroidered with roses.
They were joined by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of last year in the UK, and earned a dozen Oscar nominations, securing two for best costume and production design.
