Seamer Gus Atkinson Adds to England's Injury Concerns.
'Serious blow' for the English camp as Atkinson leaves the field with a hamstring injury.
The English seamer increased the fitness woes of the England squad after leaving the ground during Saturday's play in the Melbourne Test in the Ashes series.
The pace bowler experienced discomfort in his left leg immediately following a delivery in his spell during the morning session.
The England team indicated the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and required time off the field in order to be assessed "in the coming hours".
The final Test of the tour beginning on 4 January gets underway at the end of the week.
England have been without strike bowlers one seamer due to knee trouble and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain on this Ashes tour.
A replacement bowler was added to the party as cover for Wood.
The seamer had a tough time during the first two matches, managing only a handful of scalps.
He was left out of the third Test, then recalled for the Melbourne Test in the playing XI.
Surrey's Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, bagging two scalps with the ball, before adding 28 with the bat being one of only three England players to reach double figures.
After bowling one over at the end of day one, he came back the next day and dismissed the nightwatchman edging to the keeper.
Unfortunately, at the end of that over, he sent down a variation to the batsman and promptly felt for his hamstring.
The English bowler returned to the side for the Boxing Day Test following his omission the previous Test.
