Shock as Renowned South African DJ Gunned Down in the City of Johannesburg.
A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been shot dead in the country's largest city Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a nation struggling with persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the city centre on the afternoon of Tuesday.
Officials stated the 40-year-old presenter was confronted by three suspects, one of whom shot at him before running away.
The purpose of the shooting is unknown and no arrests have taken place, police said.
How It Happened
Law enforcement revealed that Stock was attacked as he was leaving a premises close to the Carlton Centre.
He had devoted time at the site overseeing the setup of security systems, which had been controversially occupied by unknown people, it was reported.
"The report indicates the victim was confronted by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they opened fire at him before running from the location on foot," authorities stated.
Security camera video showed a suspect with dreadlocked hair and clad in what appeared to be a guard's attire shooting on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ sought to escape after he was wounded but fell down across the street.
It was further revealed that Stock had an unused firearm and no items were stolen during the assault.
Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were discovered at the scene.
Call for Public Assistance
Police have appealed eyewitnesses who may have witnessed the attack to assist with the investigation.
"Evidence suggests they walked a long distance after the attack, and officers have been following their trail to determine their destination," stated a police chief.
Family and Public Reaction
His sister, Nicole Stock, stated the relatives are devastated to process his death.
"Words fail me. I am shattered," she stated.
"We know he was a representative for countless citizens. He spoke out bravely about issues not many people were willing to speak about. This is a tremendous loss."
She urged the public to refrain from sharing explicit content from the incident, saying this was an incredibly difficult time, above all for Stock's children.
