The Reform UK leader Claims Educators of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Racial Topics
Nigel Farage has asserted that educators would initiate walkouts within weeks a success at the polls for his party, accusing them of “harming young minds” by instructing children that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
At a gathering for a private US Christian college, Farage outlined his perspective on the UK education system, claiming that the “Marxist left” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I expect a teachers’ strike soon after securing a victory,” he remarked in response to questions.
“They are poisoning our kids. They are telling them to feel guilt about their nation. They are telling little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is oppressed and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is an oppressor. They create division, not uniting us. They are feeding this harmful mindset.”
Reacting to Farage’s claims, Daniel Kebede rejected the notion that the schools were under Marxist influence as “nonsense”. He pointed out that industrial action must relate to teachers’ terms and conditions, and questioned whether the party would target these immediately upon entering government.
“The politician has crafted his political career on dog-whistle politics and currently, like Trump, he is lining up teachers and their unions for a fight,” the union leader said.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. I don’t – and nor does my union – advocate such divisive theories as he claims … Should he become prime minister he would sell out our public services, including education … and he would be a disaster for education and children.”
The party, which tops surveys by about 10 points, has not set out much detail on its educational plans and seems not to have designated an education lead.
Nonetheless, Farage’s remarks indicated the group would reform the system and the curriculum. Farage declared: “We have got a massive job with schooling – truly monumental. And, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it will take us years, a long-term effort to reform.”
He stated that younger generations are receptive to analytical thought, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.
Paying tribute to Charlie Kirk, he commented: “My goal for schooling is to foster independent thought – to instruct people that multiple perspectives exist and you make up your own mind rather than current practices where views are labeled good or bad. It’s a massive job in the UK and US.”
Reform has previously clashed with the UK’s largest teaching union, after Kebede called the party “extremist and prejudiced” and dismissed Farage as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.
Farage has accused Kebede of being “a self-declared Marxist” … an individual intent that our children should be poisoned at school, their minds should be poisoned about everything to do with this country” and maintained that the union is trying to indoctrinate youth opposed to his party.
Roughly a million individuals work in schools in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The leading teachers’ organization has about 450,000 members.
Countrywide walkouts over teacher pay and conditions in 2023 led to significant interruptions in schools and extensive missed instruction for children.
At the US event, Farage also vowed to promote the digital courses of the institution in the UK. He stated such groups were “key to resistance”, noting: “I am serious. I’ll assist attract vast numbers of youth to your online courses. I pledge this now and I’ll do that.”
The college, a religious educational establishment, offers free courses. Its website states: “Comprehensive learning is necessary for personal happiness and to maintain the benefits of freedom. It offers these excellent programs for no charge to every interested learner.”
