Three-time award winner Jokic suffers a 'heartbreaking' knee injury.
Three-time National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic suffered a "gut-wrenching" knee injury when the Denver Nuggets were defeated 147-123 against the Heat.
The Serbian center sustained the injury towards the end of the second quarter during an accidental contact with teammate Spencer Jones.
His teammate came down on the footwear of Jokic, and he immediately went down to the floor grabbing his leg.
The star, that tops the league season in boards and dimes, had a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the game prior to sustaining the setback.
Jokic will have an MRI scan on the following day to evaluate the extent of the problem.
"Immediately, Jokic understood there was a problem," said Nuggets head coach David Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Whoever who is injured, that's tough to see, most notably somebody as talented as Jokic. More information will come tomorrow."
"We'll move on together. Obviously, right now, I am more worried about Jokic as a person and the frustration of facing an event like that."
